One of the best ways to keep yourself on track with saving money and living a frugal lifestyle is to keep informed about this way of life. This is the reason that we read blogs and books about saving money; the more information that we have, the more capable we are of setting and sticking to our money-saving goals. But with so many different books out there about frugality, simple living and learning to save money, which books are the books that you should really be reading?

Here is a look at some information about ten different books that have been recommended by ten different frugal bloggers:

1. 1/2 Price Living: Secrets to Living Well on One Income by Ellie Kay. How much more frugal can you get than to reduce your family’s total income by such a significant amount as eliminating the second income altogether? Many families do it but you have to be frugal to do it well. This book is all about how to do that. It discussed a plan for preparing to do this, steps for cutting costs on major family expenses and ideas for keeping the lines of communication open so that this plan works. This particular book was reviewed by The Simple Dollar.

2. You Can Negotiate Anything by Herb Cohen. This book isn’t necessarily about saving money although the tips and techniques that it describes are very useful to people who want to save money. The premise is that you can negotiate or barter about absolutely anything if you know the tools of negotiation. These tools are presented in this book and end up being very useful for living a frugal lifestyle. This book was reviewed by Get Rich Slowly where there is also a related post about haggling to save money.

3. The Trap: Selling Out to Stay Afloat in Winner-Take-All-America by Daniel Brook. Are there limitations placed on you by living frugally? Do you have to compromise your work choices when you live a frugal lifestyle? Is this the fault of the government, the social structure or something else? All of these issues are discussed and reviewed in this book that was recommended by WiseBread.

4. The Frugal Millionaires by Jeff Lehman. Do you want to be inspired to stick with your frugal lifestyle? Read the life stories of seventy frugal millionaires and how they handle two dozen different financial issues. There’s great advice in here about saving money and a lot of inspiration about the rewards of making smart choices with your money. This book was reviewed by Frugal for Life.

5. Start Over, Finish Rich: 10 Steps to Get You Back on Track in 2010 by David Bach. This is a brief easy-to-read book that’s all about how to get yourself back on track with your finances in spite of the problems that have plagued the economy. It’s uplifting and practical and can help frugal people start to implement actions that they may have been neglecting recently. It was recommended by All Financial Matters.

6. The Great Depression: A Diary by Benjamin Roth. Speaking of the economy, this is hardly the only time in history when things got rough financially. The worst time, of course, was during The Great Depression. By reading true stories about how people managed to live frugally and to get through those tough times, we can gain some great money-saving tips as well as some hope for our own futures. This diary from that era is what that’s all about. Recommended by My Money Blog.

7. Making the Most of Your Money Now: The Classic Bestseller Completely Revised for the New Economy by Jane Bryan Quinn. This is an old book that’s been updated to reflect the current state of personal finance. It’s a comprehensive book that provides a wealth of information and ideas for being smarter about your money. In their review, Consumerism Commentary helpfully called this book a financial “encyclopedia with annotations”.

8. Get Financially Naked by Manisha Thakor and Sharon Kedar. This is a pretty specific money book but it’s one that a lot of women need. It’s for women who want to find out if they’re financially compatible with their mates. Reviewing this issue can really help you to open up communication about finances in your relationship. Doing this is a key step towards saving more money. It’s recommended by Bargain Babe.

9. Complete Tightwad Gazette by Amy Dacyczyn. This author used to write newspaper columns about saving money. These columns have been combined into books offering tips, suggestions and anecdotes about frugal living. The three books have been combined together into this one large book that offers a comprehensive overview of all that you need to know to live frugally. Recommended as a favorite by Blogging Away Debt.

10. The New Frugality by Chris Farrell. This popular new book is all about green living and frugal living and how these things go hand-in-hand. The thesis of the book is that you need to know what you value so that you can live according to those values and not waste money. It’s a thesis of life that frugal people know well!
