There are many tips out there for saving money on your utilities. However, most of the experts who discuss this issue neglect to start at the beginning. You might be able to save money by getting your gas and electric from the right source. In the UK, this means weighing your options and determining whether it is financially smarter to get both utilities from the source or to get them from two different sources.

In the UK, most gas and electricity suppliers are licensed by Ofgem. However, if you know your utility rights then you know that as a homeowner are not required to get your gas and electricity from a single source. You can choose to get them from two different sources, using smaller companies to get your utilities.

In some cases, it may be cheaper to choose this dual-company option. In many cases, these smaller utility companies want to compete in the market and so they will offer great money-saving deals to people who choose to work with them. However, you do have to look at the total bill for both separate companies and compare it to the cost of getting your utilities from a single company. Whichever amount is lower is clearly the way to go.
