Women have come a long way in the fight to earn a wage equal to what men earn. Nevertheless, women still typically earn less than their male counterparts. In many industries, there continue to be far more men in the highest-paying positions than there are women. And it appears that this problem even reigns supreme in the realm of fantasy. Take a look at any list of the richest superheroes/ comic book characters / fictional characters and you will find that it’s tough to locate rich imaginary women on those lists.

In the real world, women are often the financial geniuses behind the household budget. Maybe these are the women that little girls are looking up to as they grow up today. Nevertheless, every child enjoys fantasy. Here’s a look at ten of the richest female superheroes/ supervillains for little girls to adore:

1.  Wonder Woman. She’s the quintessential feminist superhero role model, fighting for equal rights for little girls. We don’t know exactly how much money she has but we do know that she can afford a pair of indestructible gold bracelets and an invisible plane. Her tiara, Lasso of Truth and ceremonial armor with wings are all made of gold, suggesting that this superhero surely has a tidy sum in her savings account. Plus her mother owns an island which is a sure sign that the family has money.

2. Black Cat. This Marvel Comics superhero was raised by a famous cat burglar who taught her all of his skills. She was able to amass a small fortune through bank robberies and other thefts. She is drawn to powerful men (like Spider-Man) and gets bored when they want to live just a normal life. In a limited series called Marvel Divas it’s revealed that the Black Cat ends up broke for a time but her cat burglar ways put her back on track. She doesn’t earn her money honestly but she does get her hands on plenty of it.

3. Fire. This DC Comics superhero surely does well herself and even comes by her money through her own hard work. She worked as the president of the Brazilian branch of Wayne Enterprises, the huge corporation headed by Bruce Wayne (Batman) who is one of the richest superheroes in the comic book world. She’s also worked as a supermodel, a stage performer, a Brazilian spy and even an Internet celebrity so she’s clearly willing to do whatever it takes to earn her way in the world.

4. Zatanna. It’s hard to say for sure how much this illusionist has in the bank. However, she grew up with Batman and was passionately involved with him for a time. One can assume that this probably means that her family had enough money to associate with his rich family. She has magical powers and never seems to be lacking for anything.

5. Catwoman. This superhero who is also romantically linked to Batman had to bring herself out of poverty by her own wits. She was a prostitute for a time but eventually got into the business of being a cat burglar and jewel thief. She steals more for others than for herself but she does well by herself anyway. She has been known to go back to her old ways and to work as a dominatrix in times of need. She’s not consistently rich but she makes a lot of money during certain time periods.

6. Jean Loring. This DC superheroine has a complicated life. At the heart of it all, however, she is an attorney in the fictional town of Ivy Town. One can assume that she makes a higher-than-average salary in this position.

7. Nelvana of the Northern Lights. This superhero is one of the first Canadian superheroes. You can tell that she’s got some money to spare by her great fur-trimmed outfits and impeccable sense of style. Of course, it helps that her father is the King of the Northern Lights so she is effectively a princess of one of the most beautiful natural wonders in the real world.

8. Marvel Girl. This superhero’s dad isn’t as well-off as a king but he does fine for himself as an apparently tenured professor at Bard College. He at least earns enough money to send Marvel Girl to the prestigious Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. This gives Marvel Girl an edge up in the world when it comes to finances.

9. Wasp. This Marvel Comics superhero makes no secret out of the fact that she was born into money. In fact, she starts off being a rather snooty debutante type of girl. Later on, however, she takes over the work done by her rich scientist father and starts to earn the hefty income that she’s accustomed to.

10. Emma Frost. Perhaps the most inspirational role model for little girls, Emma Frost starts off life with wealth but goes out of her way to earn her own way in the world. She doesn’t agree with the way that her wealthy father chooses to live or wield his power. As a result, she turns down his offer to carry on his legacy (and therefore gives up his money). She has to go through some tough times, including homelessness, but she gets an education and succeeds. She becomes the Chairman of the Board and CEO of Frost International and then goes on to become the the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and headmistress of the Massachusetts Academy, an elite school for superheroes. And on top of all of that, she has the superhero ability of being able to actually turn herself into a diamond!
