Ask Kathryn: Money Saving Advice
Ask Kathryn is a new weekly advice column here on the Money Saving Blog. Each week I’ll be tackling some of the tough questions that people have today about how to live a frugal life. Of course, you don’t want to get personal finance advice from just anyone so let’s take a brief look at what qualifies me to provide you with information about how to save money.
The main thing that you need to know about me is that I am a freelance writer and blogger who has been working for myself in the field of writing for nearly ten years. There are two reasons that this relates to being a personal finance expert. One is that I have in-depth experience researching this topic for the writing that I’ve done on it in the past. The other is that being a freelancer means that income is sporadic and I had to learn to live frugally through personal experience!
Being a personal finance writer means that I have had the opportunity to research all different types of money-saving topics. My research extends to all areas of personal finance including dealing with debt, saving money while going green, using technology on a budget and finding money saving tips for every day life. I regularly read blogs, books, magazines and newspaper articles about living a frugal life. I also often have the opportunity to interview and work with other people (both experts and average folks) to discuss the different things that we each do to save money and to trade tips for being better at the money-saving arts.
Although all of this research has been important to making me fully knowledgeable about the topic of personal finance, it is my personal experience that really helps me to offer money-saving advice to others. I make a living as a freelancer in San Francisco, one of the most expensive cities in the United States. This means that I have had to implement numerous money-saving tricks over the years to make sure that I can pay my bills while doing the work that I love.
The only other thing that you should know about me is that I believe that saving money is important for more than just reasons of mere survival. I believe that learning how to save money allows us to free up more time for ourselves. This time can be used to enjoy the people and activities that we love. For this reason, I believe that a frugal life is the richest life that you can possibly have! I look forward to sharing my knowledge about living such a life through this column.
