We launched our money-saving advice column, Ask Kathryn, this week with a post responding to concerns about staying fit while saving money. A look around the frugal blogosphere reveals that we weren’t the only ones thinking about that issue this week. There were tips on using exercise balls and thoughts on walking as a cheap way of aging gracefully. And it was pointed out that just making time for exercise might save you money!

Of course, staying fit is about more than just exercise. A lot of blog posts this week also focused on how to save money on eating right (although some people focused more on the saving money than on the eating healthy!) There were some great tips out there on making the most of your leftovers and remembering to take your lunch to work. There was also a yummy recipe for an inexpensive healthy berry shake. And on this blog we gave you some tips on reducing your food costs.

Although the issue of frugally staying fit seemed to be an important one this week, it wasn’t the one that caught the most attention. What was, of course, was the presidential inauguration. This brought up a lot of online talk about economic change, what to expect financially in 2009 and the general politics of money. It also got a lot of people thinking about freedom. What does it mean to be free? And how can being frugal give us more freedom?

Wow, what a great week! Happy saving!
