The thing that seemed to be at the forefront of everyone’s minds this past week as they wrote the articles for their personal finance blogs was the state of employment in the United States today. Writers discussed creative ways to find employment such as moving to a small town. And they mused about how a little recognition can go a long way towards keeping employees happy.

Going hand-in-hand with the employment issue is the general concern that everyone has about what’s going on with our economy. There was a lot to be said this week about the economic stimulus package. There were also many words of hope that we will recover from this economic slump.

We’re not waiting around for the government to solve our problems, though. There is a big push for everyone to take responsibility for their own finances. Smart blog posts this week taught us how to make sure our mortgages are correct, figure out if a debt consolidation company is legitimate, understand our insurance policies, dispute credit card charges and act as the CFO of our own families.

Of course, part of dealing with the economy and our personal finances involves simply living a frugal life. Around the blogosphere this week there were tips on buying in bulk, shopping online and in thrift stores and taking a zen approach to eating. And here on this blog we asked the thoughtful question: “should all products come with a lifetime guarantee?”

That’s a lot to chew on. Happy reading and happy saving!
