Discount Codes Most Popular with College-Aged Kids

Ask the average college student if he ever uses traditional coupons clipped out of a newspaper and the answer is most likely going to be no. However, ask him if he’s interested in using online discount codes to save money and there’s more than a fifty percent chance that he’s going to say yes. That’s because the college-aged crowd of 18-24-year-olds is the segment of society that has been found to be most likely to use online promotional codes according to new research.

Platform-A’s Business Intelligence organization recently partnered with Information Resources, Inc. to complete a study regarding trends in the use of both traditional coupons and online discount codes. The study found that over fifty percent of people in the college-age group are likely to use discount codes if these are presented to them online even though they have historically been disinterested in traditional coupon use. The group most likely to use promo codes is young couples who do not yet have children which is interesting since you would think that young families would be more conscious about saving money than their childless counterparts.

The difference has to do with a comfort in using the technology of today’s modern world. The study found, unsurprisingly, that almost twenty five percent of coupon clippers are senior citizens (a group that is not at all likely to look for online discount codes). As technology improves to allow for more methods of using discount codes online and via mobile phones, it is likely that the trend towards increased use of these coupons by younger generations will continue.
