Coupon queens are those women who save hundreds of dollars every month just by using coupons. The average shopper can’t get those kinds of savings because they don’t know how to properly take advantage of coupons. Although coupon queens have tons of different tricks that they use to maximize their savings, they rely on a fairly simple process of couponing that anyone can learn.
In a recent article on couponing, two coupon queens revealed their secret to a 4-step process for couponing:
1. Clip, download and organize coupons. The first step to using coupons is to make sure that you have access to as many coupons as possible. You do this by clipping coupons out from your local paper as well as by downloading online coupons. Then you have to make sure that you organize the coupons in a way that lets you clearly see what you have. See our tips for how to organize online coupons.
2. Research bargains. Most people who use coupons stop with Step One. They figure that getting and using the coupons is all that they need to do to save money. However, that’s not true. It’s important to research all of the different bargains that are available (such as store sales that offer lower prices than the coupons do) to make sure that you’re getting the best price on everything that you buy.
3. List, list, list. You’ll want to keep lists of everything that you need to buy. This is part of being organized with your shopping. Lists help you to see what you need and which coupons are going to help you get what you need at the lowest price.
4. Go to several stores to complete your shopping. Finally, you’ll want to make sure that you go to the store that offers the lowest price on each item that you’re going to buy. Your lists will help with that since they’ll show you what you need and where to get it at the lowest cost. By shopping around in this way, you keep your costs as low as possible.
Once you’ve gotten used to this four-step habit, you’ll be one step closer to becoming a coupon queen yourself!
