Coupon users have increased their use of coupons across all different formats. People are clipping coupons, using online coupon codes to get discounts and taking advantage of new technology to access and use mobile coupons. But one particular type of coupon is getting a lot of attention in the media right now – the printable coupon.

The reason that the printable coupon is attracting attention is because Yahoo! has recently launched a new section of their website which is devoted to making it simpler for Internet browsers to find printable coupons through the site. The section is called Yahoo! Deals. In addition to the printable coupons the section offers information and tips for getting good deals. It also has a social networking function for people who want to communicate online with other coupon users.

Yahoo! cites the reason for deciding to open this new website section as being that the search engine has seen a dramatic increase in the number of people who are searching online for printable coupons. They report that the number increased 50% from 2008 to 2009. The number increased a lot last year as well; there was a 135% increase in total from 2007 to 2009.

There are pros and cons to using printable coupons as compared to other coupon formats. In fact, many stores are starting to move away from using printable coupons because of issues related to coupon fraud. Instead, these stores are using discount codes to satisfy their customers who want to locate online deals. Nevertheless, the growth in web searches for printable coupons as noted by Yahoo! points to the fact that there is definitely still a market for this type of money-saving tool.
