Two major coupon queens have recently revealed major secrets about couponing. These are the kinds of secrets that most coupon users simply aren’t aware of; the kind that can make it so that you save even more money when using coupons than you ever possibly imagined. The first secret is that it’s not always best to buy the family-size item when you’re buying something with a coupon. The second secret is merely a trick about holding off on using coupons until you see a “buy one, get one free” deal. These secrets may seem simple but to those of us who are trying to cut corners they can be the difference between mere savings and a real bargain.

The first secret of the two secrets to be revealed is that it’s sometimes best to buy a smaller size item (rather than a family size item) when you are using a coupon to make a purchase. This goes against what almost all of us have been taught to believe about couponing. We’ve been taught that the best bargain on most items is the bulk size or largest size of the item. We’ve been taught that a coupon is most effective when it’s used to buy this size. However a coupon queen recently revealed that it’s often smarter to use coupons to get the smaller size of the same item. That is because a high-value coupon applied to a low-price item gives you more per-ounce savings than if it’s applied to a higher-priced item. When you think about it that way it makes complete sense!

The other thing revealed recently by a savvy couponer was more of a trick than a secret. It’s a trick she calls BOGO which refers to “buy one, get one free” shopping. She points out that if you use a coupon during a BOGO deal then you reduce the cost of the first item and still get the second item for free which significantly increases your coupon savings. If you didn’t already realize that holding on to your coupons until a BOGO deal comes along was a good idea then this is another secret that can benefit you. Happy savings!
