Do you wish that you could live like a millionaire? Even if you pride yourself on your frugality and your simple living habits, there is probably a part of you inside that sometimes wishes that you had the resources of a millionaire. What you probably already realize, however, is that millionaires are just people. They may have more money than you do but they have the same emotions, problems and joys that you do. Their lives may seem totally different from yours but the differences aren’t that big. And there are actually a lot of little lifestyle habits that you can adopt today. These habits will allow you to infuse your life with a sense of luxury and richness without compromising your frugal living goals. Some of them even help out with your frugality.

Some of the top millionaire lifestyle habits to begin adopting today include:

• Attend exciting events. One of the things that a lot of millionaires do is spend their time making appearance at exciting events. These may be major fashion shows, important business conferences, celebrity weddings or red carpet events. Whatever the event, the point is that they get to dress up, go out and spend a night on the town. Doing this fills your life with a luxurious sense of fun (although you have to imagine that it probably gets a bit tiring after too many nights in a row and so many obligations to fulfill!) You shouldn’t deprive yourself of the chance to attend exciting events just because you’re on a budget. There are a lot of interesting events in your local area that are free or cheap. There are probably also one or two major annual events that you’d love to attend but always talk yourself out of because it’s too expensive. Make it a point to get out and have a good time at those affordable events as well as to work a more expensive annual event into your budget. You’ll feel like you’re living the rich life without changing much about your spending at all.

• Work hard, play hard. Sure there are some millionaires out there who came from money and who don’t work much at all. Most, however, work hard to get and keep the money that they have. These people set business goals and pursue them single-mindedly. They work extra hours in order to meet those goals. They make sacrifices in order to achieve what they want to achieve. And then they take a break and go on a stunning vacation to escape from all of the stress. This extreme level of work and play might not be right for you but the gist of it makes sense for most people. Set goals for your life, work hard to achieve those goals and then do something to celebrate when you reach them. That’s a millionaire’s life in a nutshell and it’s definitely a way of life that works for the average person.

• Get a great haircut. How you feel about yourself inevitably includes how you feel about the way that you look. Millionaires don’t head to haircut chain stores to get their locks chopped because they know that they’ll leave they’re feeling as cheap as the cost of the cut. You should take a lesson from these folks. Of course, if you’re being frugal then you aren’t going to spend a fortune on a name brand stylist. But if you get creative then you can get a rich haircut without spending a lot of money. Barter a service you offer with a hairstylist in your area or get amazing discount haircuts from the students of a local hair salon. If you love your haircut the you’re going to feel like a million bucks even if you don’t spend much at all.

• Buy designer brand clothing. Millionaires aren’t going to show up at events or business meetings dressed in cheap threads. Now, no one is saying that you should rush out and spend $1000 on a handbag just because the rich folks are doing it. However, you might want to think designer when it comes to a few of the core piece in your wardrobe. If your life requires that you own one nice dress or a business suit then take the time to find a good designer piece. Keep the cost down by shopping in the off season and looking for clearance deals. Buy something classic that will last a long time. In the long run, you’ll save money because you won’t have to replace the item again and again. And what if your life doesn’t require such outfits? A designer swimsuit or designer jacket might be in order if you want to live like a millionaire.

• Get facials, manicures and massages. The rich can go to spas whenever they like. They can even have personal masseuses come to their home. The rest of us don’t want to waste our money on those things but that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t treat ourselves to some great self care. Trade massages with your spouse, partner or best friend on a regular basis. Add some scented candles or luxury towels to your bathroom to make it feel more like a spa. Give yourself a facial once a month using natural products. Taking the time to treat yourself to these little things will make you feel like the special person that you are. You don’t need a fat bank account to love that!

• Eat something indulgent. If you were a millionaire and wanted to go get dinner, what would you get? Would you jet off to Italy for a rich homemade pasta dish? Would you open a bottle of great champagne? People who have a lot of money tend to indulge in expensive meals. Your grocery budget may be limited but you can always do some rearranging to make sure that you have the few items that really taste rich to you. Try to imagine what you would stock your fridge with if you were a millionaire planning to cook at home for the week. Then go get it. Maybe it’s fancy cheese, imported wine or chocolate mousse. It doesn’t matter what it is; find a way to indulge in it from time to time and your life will feel richer.

• Invest your money. Most millionaires don’t just leave their money sitting in a savings account. They learn what they can about investing so that they can turn the money that they have into more money. It’s wise for you to start thinking this way, too. You don’t have to be rich to be an investor. You can start small. Social lending programs are a great place to start because they’re low risk and have low entry costs. Not only will you likely make money off of your endeavors, you’ll probably feel empowered as you begin to learn more about money and how the millionaires make it!

• Figure out what you want. One of the things that millionaires get to do just because they have enough money is to get what they want when they want it. They see a boat and want it, it’s theirs. Most of us can’t live that way. We can, however, identify what things we want and work out our budgets and lifestyles to make sure that we get them. Of course, a lot of the things that we truly want are things that don’t cost any money but we’re talking here about those material things that do cost something. If you know what you’d truly really like to own then getting it will make you feel rich. Whether it’s the chance to buy a fancy coffee drink before work once a week or the opportunity to own a nicer car, determine what matters to you and work for it. Make sure that you really know what you want, though, or else you’re going to have buyers’ regret. Believe it or not it’s something that even happens to millionaires!
