Where Can I Find Coupon Codes?

Written by Kathryn on October 18, 2009

People have a lot of questions when it comes to coupon codes. They want to know what the best ways are to maximize their savings when using coupon codes. They have questions about how to organize their coupon codes in an efficient manner. They are curious about research and statistics related to the growing use of coupon codes. But the single most common question that you hear asked when it comes to coupon codes is “where can I find them?” People know that there are a lot of different places to find coupon codes but they aren’t sure which the best places are to look. This article should help if you’ve been asking yourself “where can I find coupon codes?”

Promotional Codes Sites

The single best place to find coupon codes is through sites that are solely dedicated to providing you with coupon codes. Yes, we’re talking about voucher code sites like ours but we aren’t just patting ourselves on the back here. We’ll give you some good reasons why these are the top places to look when you’re trying to find coupon codes that you can use to get discounts for shopping online. Those reasons include:

• Coupon code sites aggregate a lot of coupon deals in one place. If you want access to the most number of coupon codes without having to look all around the web then you’ll want to find a good coupon code site to rely on.
• Coupon code sites are updated regularly. We update our site every day to bring you the newest coupons from a variety of retailers. Other methods of finding coupon codes aren’t always as up-to-date as coupon code sites are.
• Coupon code sites offer the most reliable coupons. There are a lot of coupon codes printed on blogs and other places around the web that just aren’t reliable. They don’t work and you waste your time looking for them and trying to use them. Coupon code sites not only have the most reliable coupons; most will even tell you exactly how reliable the coupons are using percentages based on user input.

Retailers’ Websites

If there is a specific retailer that you want to shop with online then you should check the site itself for coupon code deals. There are a few ways to do this:

• Check the front page. Good coupon deals are almost always advertised on the front page of a retailer’s website.
• Look for a coupon button. Many retailers have a button that says something like coupons, deals or special savings. This takes you to a list of current coupon codes for the site.
Read the company’s blog. Sometimes this is where they publish their coupon codes.
• Check the Twitter account for the site. Coupon codes are often promoted through the site’s corresponding Twitter account.
• Do an advanced Google search. Do a Google search for the word “coupon”. When the selections come up, click the button that says “advanced search”. Enter the website of the retailer into the box allowed for searching a specific domain. This will bring up a lot of pages that offer coupons for the site. You’ll have to sift through old and new coupons but it may help you find what you’re looking for.
• Look for a button that says “enter coupon” at the time of checkout. This usually means that there’s a coupon somewhere on the site. If you can’t find it then email the contact person and ask if there are any current coupon deals for the site.

Remember to always check your favorite promotional codes sites to make sure there’s not a better coupon there before using the coupon that you find on the retailer’s site.

Blogs, Twitter and Other Social Media

A lot of people choose to get their coupon codes from sources other than retailers and sites intended for promotional codes. It’s true that there are a lot of places that you can get these codes. You can do a Twitter search for “coupons” or follow major coupon promoters on Twitter. You can read blogs from people who regularly post coupon codes on those blogs. You can befriend people on Facebook who promote coupon codes through that site. If you’re a big fan of social media then you can certainly take the time to find coupon codes this way. However, you should be aware that there are two downsides to getting your coupon codes primarily through social media sites:

• It is time consuming. It takes a long time to find the best coupon codes if you’re going from blog to blog to blog and then also searching Twitter, Facebook and various coupon sharing sites.
• It doesn’t always turn up the best results. You may find that you get good coupon codes from this effort that you’re putting in … or you may not. It can be a hit or miss thing in comparison to using promotional code sites or retailers.

What About Using Search Engines?

A final option is to use search engines to find promotional codes for a product that you’re trying to buy. You enter the product’s name along with “coupon” or “coupon code” into the major search engines and then see what comes up. Some search engines are even starting to add a special coupon search section to the financial section of their sites. This can be a good way to find specific coupon codes but it’s probably not the best option to use on a regular basis since it is time-consuming and may be ineffective (similar to using social media to find coupon codes). This option should be used as a backup if you want to find coupon codes that you aren’t finding on your favorite promotional codes sites or retailers’ websites.
