Promotional Codes Could Influence Christmas Shopping Trends
2008 was a rough year for retailers in terms of annual holiday spending. The economy put everyone in the frame of mind that spending a lot of money on Christmas gifts was a bad idea. A lot of businesses that had been counting on a profit boost caused by holiday shoppers were disappointed last year when retail sales for the holidays failed to reach their expectations. Those same companies have been worried about what Christmas shopping is going to look like in 2009.
Research seems to indicate that holiday shoppers will be spending about the same amount of money in 2009 as they did in 2008. However, consumers are a lot more interested in getting good deals with coupons this year than they were last year. Coupon use has risen considerably since last holiday season. Retailers that want to encourage their customers to do some serious Christmas shopping this year will be likely to offer good coupon deals to entice those shoppers into buying from them.
Nearly one third of shoppers would be willing to shop at a different store if the item they wanted was available from that store with a discount from a coupon. The same number of shoppers would be willing to delay their purchase until later in the season if they believed that a coupon was going to become available. Retailers are likely to take note of this and to put out more coupons this year in order to appeal to consumers. As a holiday shopper, you should be sure to keep an eye out for these coupons when doing your shopping so that you can save money while getting gifts for your loved ones.
