Discount Codes Used to Encourage Chlamydia Testing
People of all different ages and income levels are starting to use coupons. As a result, businesses of all kinds are beginning to make serious use of coupon offers to entice consumers to buy whatever it is that they are selling. But it’s not just retailers that are luring people in with coupon deals; even local governments and non-profit agencies are starting to take advantage of the fact that coupon deals are likely to get the attention of people who otherwise might not be paying attention to them.
Case in point – The National Health Service (NHS) in several areas is offering a £5 voucher code to a certain number of young people who agree to get tested for Chlamydia. Statistics indicate that one in every twelve people may have Chlamydia and young people are failing to get tested for it like they should be. In order to encourage these kids to get tested, the NHS has advertised that they will give a shopping voucher to the first 1000 people aged 15-24 who agree to take the test.
This is a really interesting use of coupons that we haven’t really seen too much of in the past. Coupons are typically offered for the benefit of the retailer. Even though the buyer benefits by getting a discount, the retailer issues the coupon to increase sales so it is for their own benefit. In this case, the coupon is issued specifically as a perk for the individual to encourage testing that can benefit the whole community. It’ll be interesting to see whether other government agencies use this tactic in the future.
