Money. It’s a topic that we are all very familiar with. And yet, it’s a topic that we also always want to learn more about. It seems like even the “experts” – the economists, the coupon queens and the finance advisors – don’t know all that there is to know about money. Questions about money continue to exist all around us despite the fact that so much information is already available about this popular topic.

Although people may ask many, many, many different types of questions about money, these are the top ten most commonly asked money questions:

1. How do I make money? The single most common question that people have about money is how to make it. Some people just want a general answer about how to best earn money. Other people want to know how to make money online or how to make money quickly. Some people actually literally want to know how to create or print money (which is, of course, illegal). Everyone seems to know that having money is important in this world so they want to know how to get their hands on it.

2. How do I save money? Once you’ve learned how to make money you rapidly learn that it goes away as quickly as it comes. That’s why a lot of people really want to know how to save money. And that’s why frugal living blogs, articles from coupon queens and books about cutting back on spending are all so popular these days. We all need practical tips about saving the money that we work so hard to obtain.

3. How do I invest money? Once we’ve learned how to make and save money then we often leap to the next step of wanting to learn how to invest our money. We want to know the ins and outs of different types of investments such as real estate investing or investing in stocks. A lot of people have serious questions right now about the security of making investments during a recession.

4. How much money do I need? People frequently want to know how much money they need before they can reach a milestone in life. For example, they want to know how much money they need in order to buy their dream home. Or they want to know how much money they need in order to retire. Although people may be good at earning money, they aren’t always good at understanding how to spend it appropriately so they have questions surrounding that.

5. How much money does x,y,z cost? Other people just want some basic information about what an item or service costs. This is good because it means that people are doing comparison shopping. They may go to an online forum and ask what it typically costs to get a house cleaned. This gives them an idea of what fair prices are so they can purchase this service accordingly. They may also be trying to create a budget so they’ll ask how much it costs to get a Nintendo Wii or a Toyota Prius; knowing this information allows them to save up the right amount to make the purchase.

6. How much money does x,y,z make? Of course, people are also curious about how much money other people are earning. People want to know how much different celebrities earn or are worth. Common celebrities that people ask this question about include Paris Hilton, Bill Gates, Jerry Seinfeld and Simon Cowell. People may also want general information about how much people earn when they have different jobs. For example, they will ask how much an archaeologist earns or what the average salary is for a zoologist. This is information that they want so that they can determine whether or not it’s a smart financial decision to go into a field that interests them.

7. Where can I find millionaires who give away money? This is a surprisingly popular question. There are a lot of millionaires who give away money and people want to know if there is a way to convince these people to give that money to them. Usually millionaires give their money to causes rather than to individuals but people still want to know if there are any tricks to getting them to give up that cash to help them out.

8. How should I handle money in my relationships? A more practical question is how to deal with money in a marriage or partnership. There are many specific questions around this such as how to talk to your spouse about money, whether finances should be shared or separate and how to agree on budgeting issues in the home. It all boils down to trying to figure out how to mesh your money beliefs with those of your partner.

9. How should I teach my kids about money? When kids come into the picture, things get even more complicated. People want to know how to teach their kids about money, whether they should give them allowances and if there are jobs for kids that can help them learn about earning money starting at a young age. These are all questions that parents have to answer for themselves but luckily there’s a lot of good advice out there on the topic.

10. How do I determine the importance of money in my life? One question that has gotten increasingly important as a result of the economic downturn is what role money should have in our lives. We all know that we need money in order to survive and thrive. However, we also know that there are things in life that we value far more than money (family, health, etc.) We are each trying to figure out how much importance to place on money so that our lives are financially stable but also fulfilling in other ways. There are no easy answers to this question but it helps that we’ve started to ask it.

I am a 35 year old father of 3. Up until 2 yrs ago I had a career in the mortgage industry and was moving up through my company. In March 2009 my employer closed all North American operations and I was left without a job. After 6 months I was hired by another mortgage company, they closed my division after four months and I was unemployed once again. My 2nd period of unemployment lasted for 12 months until January 2011. I took another sales position, but my base income was cut in half. We have used all our savings, 401k and pension. We have maxed out all our credit cards to pay our bills. We are now at the end of our rope. We are praying for a God’s grace and someone to help us in our hour of need!

    Sir,
I am an Ex Army man from India. Retired in April 2004.I am from very poor family. Ambition of my wife is to do my last rites in own house. Age 67. Due to ignorance and in the anxiety of a house I have joined and arranged down line members in the National Federation of the Blind and Manav Foundation said to be working for the betterment of the backward community, with a high hope of getting incentive while serving the needy people, but they have cheated making loss of my entire pension benefits besides ran into debi aof more than 8.5 lacs in the process of coming out of the trap.As I have no source to repay the loan and amy meager pension is not sufficient even to pay interest (24%)on the loan amount trembling with fear and torture of down line members and mental agony of loan some time thinking of suicide also.I earnestly appeal to the enthusiastic benevolent philanthropists to arrange generous help to enablemy family to come out of the distressed and dilapidated condition. If required any kind of verification may be conducted to find out the facts of my statement.Kind enough to consider my family situation very sympathetically and arrange necessary help.
