We definitely believe that it’s important to be frugal on Valentine’s Day. We also believe that frugal does not mean cheap. There are tons of great ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day without spending a lot of money. By getting back to the real purpose of the holiday – to celebrate love and the people in your life that you share that love with – you can enjoy a terrific holiday and yet avoid spending a lot of cash. In the past we’ve given you a bunch of frugal Valentine’s Date ideas and we recently linked to hundreds of other great posts on making it a money-saving holiday. But we know that some people learn better from videos than text so we thought we’d also provide you with a set of great YouTube videos that can make it a whole lot easier for you to be a frugal romantic.
1. Chocolate Orange Souffle Recipe. Skip going out to dinner on Valentine’s Day because that’s a waste of money. In fact, skip the fancy dinner altogether because even cooking a great meal at home can put a crimp in your budget unless you’re really careful. Instead, make your usual meal but eat less so that you have lots of room for dessert. Make something special like this chocolate orange souffle. It doesn’t cost too much to get the ingredients together. Baking it with your partner will add to the romance. One plate, two forks and some candlelight completes this romantic dish.
2. Make a Mini Book. This is a great how-to guide for making a little craft that serves as a terrific Valentine’s Day gift. It’s a scrapbook that tells the person receiving it what you love about him or her. This one is a “five things I love about you” book but of course you can make this book as long or as short as you like. This is a highly personalized gift that allows you to be romantic and generous without spending too much money.
3. How to Crochet a Red Heart. This simple craft is another great one that you might use to make a frugal Valentine’s Day gift. You can crochet a single large red heart and give it to the one that you love. You can crochet two hearts, sew them back-to-back and stuff them to make a pillow. You can crochet a bunch of little red hearts and then strew them from the door to the bedroom to lead your lover there. Get creative!
4. How to Make Fortune Cookies. This is always a really unique, fun little gift to give for Valentine’s Day. Make your own fortune cookies and then fill them with romantic fortunes meant just for the one that you love. It’s fun to do, frugal and definitely romantic. It’s always easier to learn cooking from a video than a recipe book so hopefully this one will work out well for you.
5. How to Kiss with Passion. Many people neglect the great art of kissing especially once they’ve been dating or married to someone for a long time. Make Valentine’s Day a day for remembering how much fun it is to really passionately kiss the person that you’re with. It will make the holiday unforgettable! The video below is a little bit cheesy but it has a few good tips and certainly reminds you of the importance of kissing.
6. 13 Tips for Writing a Love Letter. A love letter is a really romantic gesture to give to someone on Valentine’s Day. It doesn’t cost you anything to write it (unless you choose some pricey stationery to write it on and even that can’t cost too much). Unfortunately, a lot of people aren’t sure how to go about working on this lost art. This video is a great guide.
7. How to Make your Bedroom Romantic. There’s nothing more fun than spending the day at home in bed with your partner. However it can feel a little bit boring if you two always go to bed together in this same room. Do a few frugal things to make the bedroom more romantic and you’ll be able to escape together in this haven once again.
8. Guide to Buying Cheap Flowers. Do you want to get a traditional Valentine’s Day gift for the person that you love? Flowers are one of the most common gifts but they can also be really expensive. There are ways to avoid spending a lot of money on flowers, though. Look for ways to cut back on the costs of flowers while still getting a nice bouquet.
9. How to Make a Card on a Shoestring Budget. If you’re really broke this year then you might not even be able to afford the simplest little Valentine’s Day card. If you have some leftover wrapping paper at home then you can make do with what you have. This video shows you how.
10. Some final tips. If none of those ideas were right for you then you might get some frugal Valentine’s Day inspiration from this news video:
