Prices a bit dear compared to others, 05 Aug 2011Review by Tom StanfieldThis site is well organised and offers great selection, but I found the prices to be way too high. I was looking for a couple seasons of Spooks, but I was able to find it much cheaper on Amazon.co.uk, and the same was true of the audio books I was trying to buy for my commute. I really like BBC programming, and I like the idea of supporting the network, but not when the prices are inflated at the source like this. That’s just silly.

Who could say no to all this Top Gear stuff?, 25 Jul 2011Review by Charley SMy husband is a huge fan of the programme Top Gear and loves to receive anything to do it as pressies. The BBC Shop is brilliant for such purposes. In fact, I order about twice a year, and I always stop in at the Top Gear section to see what’s on offer before checking out the latest videos for my children. The selection is reasonable, and the prices are really good. So far I’ve been really pleased with the experience and the amount of time it takes for delivery.

Can locate all the Beebies DVDs I need, 19 Jul 2011Review by Emma VFinally, I know where I can get all my children’s favourite DVDs for when we want to travel. My kids love Beebies, of course, and they’re really addicted to Balamorey. I can sing the theme tune by heart. Urgh! But I figure it’s a cute programme, and it can be educational. Unfortunately it’s not so easy to find the DVDs of it, so I was really happy to find that the BBC has its own online shop. I’ve ordered five different DVDs to tide us over for our next holiday, and I’m going to keep them as a surprise until we set off. I can’t wait to see their faces.

Every BBC DVD boxed set you can imagine, 30 Jun 2011Review by Jackson W.The BBC Shop carries box sets of all my favourite shows and when I’m not buying something for my family I rely on the website for gifts. Really if there’s a BBC show you’re looking for, chances are you can find the DVD on their website. Typically I type in what I am searching for as the selection is so wide that otherwise you’d be sorting through 500 or more pages at times of different DVDs. Recently I picked up the Ab Fab Absolutely Everything boxed set and for containing five series plus specials and outtakes I thought the price was right (under 30 quid). I also bought my brother New Tricks series 3-6 which was a bit more than my Ab Fab set but still a good value at 20 pounds less than RRP.
Besides DVDs they sell other items like CDs, books and gifts from the various programmes (key rings, mugs and figurines). They even feature an entire Dr. Who section of the site with various merchandise. I’ll admit that I bought a Dr. Who retro alarm clock and it’s quite kitschy fun. With free delivery over 20 pounds I never have to worry about paying more than I would in a shop.

BBC Shop -- better selection than any stores, 26 Jun 2011Review by Iain MearingsI didn’t realize the BBC had a website like this until recently, and I’m really glad to see they do. I get so tired of looking for the programmes I want at Tesco, because they can’t possibly carry all the BBC shows, and I invariably walk away without finding what I want. Last week, I ordered the last few series of Spooks, which is one of my favourite shows, and I ordered two series of Who do you think you are?. My mother-in-law loves that show, so I thought I’d get her birthday pressie taken care of whilst I could. I spent more than £20, so shipping was free, and the DVDs arrived quickly, within just a couple days. This is so much easier than driving to a big store and browsing through the shelves on the off chance that they might have what you need. I’ll definitely be coming back to the BBC Shop.
