I've never had travel insurance, but when I became pregnant not long before a trip to Australia, I thought it was a good idea in case the trip needed to be cancelled or god forbid I became ill abroad. I went and got a quote on the Coverwise site and it was really quick and easy. All you have to do is enter your dates, travel location and number of travellers. A few seconds later I had the quote on my screen, simple as that. I was surprised to see how low the policies were (started at £10.95) and wound up choosing one somewhere in the middle. We just got back and the trip was hassle free, but it was so nice to know that if something happened and I was in hospital that we wouldn't have been out of thousands of pounds.
