Springtime has arrived. It’s time to get out and about. It’s time to enjoy the lovely weather. It’s time to shed your jackets and scarves. And for many people, that means that it’s time to update their wardrobes. When spring rolls around, we start to expose our t-shirts and other clothing a bit more often. It becomes noticeable if it’s time to update those clothes because they’re worn out or just outdated. Of course, nobody wants to spend a lot of money updating their clothing just because spring is here. Luckily, you can update your seasonal wardrobe without spending too much at all.
Here are 15 tips for saving money on your spring wardrobe:
- Do some spring cleaning and sorting. The first thing that you need to do is to go through the clothing that you have to figure out what should stay and what should go. You don’t want to buy items that you don’t need. To avoid that problem, you want to make sure that you know exactly what you have. Take a few days to sort through your entire closet and organize it to see exactly what you’re working with.
- Make a list of the clothing items that you need. It’s easy to get wrapped up in spring shopping and end up wasting a lot of money. Don’t do that. Make a list of exactly what you need before you even head to the store. Common items that people discover that they need at this time of year include new t-shirts and undershirts, shorts or skirts, a light-weather jacket, brighter color choices and open-toed shoes.
- Double-check your list. One mistake that many women make at this time of year is that they want seasonal items that they don’t really need. You might want the latest cut in a warm-weather jacket but if you have a jacket from last year that fits right and looks good then you don’t really need this item. Double-check your wardrobe list with a critical eye before you go shopping.
- Check if anything in the closet can be altered to meet your needs. For example, older t-shirts can be altered into brand new tank tops and halter tops. Jeans can be cut off into shorts. This helps you to get more use out of what you own while refreshing your look.
- Set aside one full day for shopping. This will allow you to take the time that you need to truly think through your purchases.
- Start by shopping online. You can get a lot of this season’s shopping out of the way by staying home and shopping online. This is particularly true for staple pieces, such as t-shirts, that you already know your size and style for.
- Make sure to use those promotional codes. Don’t ever buy anything online without finding a promotional code to use to get a discount on that item. There are many terrific spring clothing discounts available right now.
- Head to secondhand stores and yard sales. Many of the items that women like to wear in the spring are casual items. These items are often easy to find at secondhand stores and yard sales. In many places, you’ll only wear these items for a few months so you don’t want to invest a lot of money on them.
- Do spend money on investment pieces. Although most spring items aren’t worth spending a lot of money on, there are a couple of items that you’ll want to find in a higher-quality form. A spring jacket that you can use again for many years to come is a great example. If you do a lot of hiking in warmer weather then a good pair of hiking shoes would be another example. Think about which pieces are investment pieces and find a high-quality choice at a fair price rather than going with the lowest price and having it wear out on you too quickly.
- Keep it simple. For the most part, you can keep a spring wardrobe simple. This will allow you the option of using the same clothes throughout the rest of the year and layering them with other pieces.
- Avoid colors that you won’t wear more than a couple of times. We often get the urge to really brighten things up in the springtime. Unfortunately, that bright pink top ends up hiding in the back of your closet all year and becoming a waste of money. Think carefully about your color choices and don’t get sucked in to the season. You can always use accessories to brighten up your outfit.
- Accessorize with what you already own. Springtime accessories are casual, fun and not formal at all. Just go with what you already own. Have fun with it.
- Look for spring sales. Many stores offer sales on their clothing throughout the springtime. Look for these deals in boutique stores in particular.
- Choose items that you can wear throughout the summer as well. Try to select springtime items that you’re going to be able to wear comfortably throughout the summer – nothing too heavy, for example.
- Don’t shop if you don’t have the money. As tempting as it is to get a new wardrobe for spring, you don’t want to do it if it means taking out personal credit. Make do with what you have for as long as you can.
Springtime is a really fun time to go shopping for new clothes. You want to wander around and enjoy the sunshine, stopping at sidewalk cafes in between purchases. There’s nothing wrong with that since you probably need new clothes at this time of year anyway. However, plan your purchases in advance and make sure that you stick to a budget that you can afford.

Highly recommend using online shopping portals as well to compare prices and selection. Google’s product search is a good tool, as is Sortprice.com for hard-to-find items!
