19 May

We are in the midst of springtime. This is a terrific season for so many reasons. A core reason that spring is a great time of year is because it is the cheapest season out of the four seasons. Don’t believe it? Here’s a look at 20 reasons why springtime is the cheapest time of year:

  1. You don’t need heat or air conditioning in the spring. Simply open up your windows and your home should be a comfortable temperature during this time of year. This reduces the cost of your home energy bills.
  2. Springtime is a great time to walk or bike. Stop spending money on fueling your vehicle, driving it around, repairing it, cleaning it and paying fees for parking or tolls. Instead, take advantage of the terrific weather and walk or bike everywhere during the spring.
  3. Rainy days can save you money. On the days of spring that are not so nice, you can put the rainy weather to work for you. Rain can save you money around the house if you recycle it into usable water.
  4. Springtime is the best time to plant a garden. Save money on your groceries by growing your own food.
  5. There are very few holidays in the springtime. The springtime holidays that we do have (such as Mother’s Day) lend themselves well to inexpensive gifts from the heart.
  6. It’s very easy to find cheap fun dates in the spring. It’s a season that lends itself well to inexpensive romance like picnics in the park and dancing in the rain.
  7. It’s cheap to dress during this season. It’s very rare that you need to spend a lot of money on a new spring wardrobe. What you do want to get for the spring can be very affordable.
  8. Spring cleaning can make you some money. As you clear out the many things that you have stockpiled during the other months, you will find things that you can sell or re-use to save or make money.
  9. Spring cleaning means money-saving renovations. Springtime is also a popular time to go through the house and get it back into shape so that it’s a more energy-efficient home. Make some small changes now (like updating insulation) and you’ll save money in every season to come.
  10. Spring is also a popular time to tune-up the car. Even if you’re using it less, it’s a great time to tune it up. There are lots of deals for this during the spring. A well-tuned car can save you money.
  11. Buying a car is cheapest in the spring. If you’re in the market for a new vehicle this year then spring is the season when you want to make that big purchase.
  12. Kids entertain themselves for free. As the days get a little bit longer and a little bit warmer, the kids are happy to just play outside. You don’t need to entertain them with costly activities and it’s not summer yet so you don’t have to worry about keeping them out of trouble for entire days at a time.
  13. You have a little bit of time. Those extra daylight hours and lack of busy activities mean that you have some downtime. You can use that time to catch up on organizing your finances, setting new budget goals or learning new ways to track spending. All of these things will help you to save money now and throughout the year.
  14. Vacations aren’t common but they are cheap. Most people don’t vacation in the springtime because they’re saving that for summer. If you do decide to travel during this season, however, you will find off-season sales prices to be a great cheap advantage.
  15. Companies offer great coupon codes in the spring. There are many great deals during this time of year. That’s because it’s not a big time for spending so businesses want to give you a good reason to shop with them.
  16. Yard sales, flea markets and farmers’ markets are all starting up again. People are shaking off the winter chill and heading outdoors to sell their stuff for free. You can make money as a seller or save money as a buyer at these places.
  17. Free entertainment is everywhere. This is a great time of year for finding fun free things to do. Schools do end-of-the-year events, parks start their outdoor performance season and fairs begin to pop up in many cities.
  18. Water costs tend to be low in the spring. You don’t feel the need to take those long, hot showers like you did during the winter because the house isn’t cold. You don’t need to water your plants as much because the rain has taken care of that for you. And you aren’t using the massive amounts of water that your home require during the summer months. Springtime is a cheap time as far as water around the house goes.
  19. Spring is a good time to reduce what you pay in income taxes. If you have a choice about how much money is withheld from your paycheck, you can reduce that amount during the spring to gain access to some extra cash. You can increase it again later so that you don’t owe taxes when tax time rolls back around.
  20. Springtime is a time of high creativity. There’s something about this time of year that inspires most of us to get more creative. This typically means that we are able to find fresh, new, frugal ways to save money in all areas of our life.
