Lace seems to be everywhere this winter, and the popularity of lacy styles is at least in part due to the Duchess of Cambridge being spotted in a range of lace styles in recent days. If you lusted after her black lace gown on the War Horse red carpet or were one of the people rushing into Zara desperate to find the Tulip dress Kate wore to see Gary Barlow in concert (I’ll admit to being in that group), we’ve got some alternatives for you under £250.

Unfortunately, Topshop’s version of the popular Tulip dress has sold out, but they do have another black lace dress for £40 that gives you the same feel with the higher neck and full skirt. Another alternative is the Clarissa dress (£42); the lace pattern is slightly closer to the Tulip dress here, except this style is strapless.

Although it’s not full-on lace, Asos carries an adorable skater dress that mimics the shape of the Tulip and even better, it’s on sale for £46.50 (originally £75).

Debenhams has some great black lace options for all budgets. For those with a bit more to spend, this gorgeous Roksanda Ilincic dress has similar styling to the Temperley gown Kate wore to the War Horse premiere, with the addition of a red velvet belt. It sells for £250 and is currently sold out in all sizes except 8, 14 and 16. If you want to be slightly more literal about your love for the Duchess of C, this black prom dress is modeled after the top of Kate’s wedding gown, with the long lacy sleeves and v-neck. It’s marked down from £95 to just £28.50, but the only size left as of this post is a 12; don’t dawdle if you want this one!

Another long-sleeve option that looks quite like the top of Kate’s wedding gown is this Asos lace skater dress (£45). It’s also available in nude, so if you wanted a short wedding dress this could even be an option!

Although Kate’s War Horse gown was custom-made by Temperley, you could rent this £1,575 Temperley London Kaydon gown for only £109 from Girl Meets Dress, a service that allows you to hire designer styles. With black lace long sleeves and a drapy silk jersey bottom, you’ll feel like a red carpet star for the night.
