If you were going to start using mobile coupons, what would you use them on? Research indicates that mobile coupon fans in the UK are a lot more likely to use their coupons for junk food than for necessities. The survey was based on a ten-week promotional coupon campaign located around Birmingham University so the information from the study could be skewed as a result of the demographic chosen. In other words, this survey was probably based on information provided by college students who may be more likely to want junk food than would older people who took the same survey.

Nevertheless, the information from the study was interesting. It found that the most popular item to purchase using a mobile coupon was Jaffa Cakes followed closely by chocolate. This could indicate that people are more likely to make impulsive purchases for foods that appeal to their cravings if they have a mobile coupon that they can use to get a discount on those foods. In other words, if you’re likely to get enticed to spend money on junk then you may want to be careful about having mobile coupons sent to your phone!

In addition to the information that the survey provided in regards to the type of products that people will purchase with mobile coupons, it provided some important insight into the use of these coupons. Most importantly, it revealed that over three quarters of the people who participated in the study found that it was really easy to redeem their mobile coupons. Plus nearly all of them (94%) said that they enjoyed receiving these deals on their phones. This bodes well for the future of mobile coupons!
