Nothing says spring like the first blooms peeking their heads up in your garden, so it’s no surprise that floral prints are so hot this upcoming spring/summer season. Whilst you might think a floral will only make you look sweet and girly, you’d be surprised at how you can toughen up a dainty print with a leather jacket or a great pair of boots.

My personal pick for floral dresses is this stunning number from Zara (£69.99). I bought it for a friend’s beach wedding and the floaty, asymmetrical style couldn’t be more perfect. If you’re looking for something a bit warmer or just want extra coverage in the arms department, this gorgeous long-sleeve dress from Dorothy Perkins is just 30 quid!

H&M carries a fun kimono-style floral blouse for £19.99, and with the included black satin belt you can create a flattering, slim look with your favourite trousers or leggings. For a more subtle floral touch, you can wear this pretty crochet vest from Apricot (£22) with a colourful pair of skinny jeans; just add a blazer or a cardi until the temps warm up.

This French Connection skirt, available at Asos, adds a bright retro vibe to a basic top. It’s on sale for £35 in limited sizes, so grab one before it’s gone!

Take the floral trend down to your toes with this pair of cream floral print canvas pumps from Debenhams. These £20 shoes are perfect for casual outfits like jeans, but could also be worn with a sweet little skirt or a dress (just make sure your outfit is solid – we don’t want a clashing floral nightmare!)

For just £7.50 even your sunglasses can get a pretty floral makeover with this pair from House of Fraser, and to complete your look, add a pretty floral print bag to your outfit. I love this summer floral printed clutch from Accessorize (£25).

Yesterday saw the David Beckham Bodywear line go on sale in 1,800 H&M stores across the country. The ex-England captain and father of four has made no secret of his interest in fashion, frequently making waves in the tabloids for making daring choices with his wardrobe and in turn making the weirder or more risky elements of menswear more accessible for men everywhere. Sarong, anyone? Ok, so perhaps not every venture caught on, but you have to admit that David Beckham is no stranger to style.

The new Bodywear range, which is priced from £7.99 to £19.99, consists of a range of boxer shorts, briefs, tshirts and pyjama bottoms. Not forgetting, of course, the Long John which Beckham is determined to bring back. His aspiration, he said at the Bodywear launch at the Regent Street flagship store on Wednesday, is to be “as big as Calvin Klein”, and as one of the most respected men in the world today, and one half of, debatably, the ultimate power couple, we’d say that was fairly achievable. After all, Victoria Beckham has made her way from Spice Girl to Fashion Week and is churning out season after season of successful collections, undoubtably asserting herself as a big and talented presence in the Fash Pack.

This collection, which you can view in full at the H&M website here, is the first to come from the 2 year contract Beckham has signed with the Swedish brand. At the press launch on Wednesday, in a room decorated with full sized silver statues of the man himself, Beckham was asked about what his sons thought of his new venture and, in particular, the marketing campaign which ran alongside it. He said their thoughts were “Oh my god daddy, not again”. You can hardly blame the Beckham boys, their parents are certainly no strangers to risque magazine shoots, after all the campaign the couple did for Armani underwear was actually what inspired Beckham to design his own range.

Sadly for Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and now Harper Seven, with both parents hot tipped for long careers in fashion ahead of them, the likelihood they’ll have to live down a fair few more pictures of their parents in various states of undress is pretty high. I think the rest of the world is pretty pleased about it though.

Following our post on 90s backpacks last week, we thought we’d bring you another 90s treasure that is coming back around. The Casio Baby-G first did the rounds over 15 years ago when our wishlists were full of Tamagotchis and Gameboy Colours, quickly proving itself to be the coolest and most colourful watch on the block. Now, in a new century, it’s making its way back into vogue. Teaming up with various celebrities over the past few years, Baby-Gs have been seen in all the right places, and now with pop sensation Ke$ha on board (giving true meaning to her song Tik Tok) they’re as hot as ever.

Lately, Baby G watches have been making high profile appearances in the pop world. First Lady Gaga was seen donning a bright yellow Casio Baby-G BG5602-9 digital watch in her music videos for Eh Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say) and LoveGame. The model she wore is still available here for £51.97. Next, the Casio range made a big impact with several appearances in the Rihanna music video for Rudeboy. Donning a bracelet made up of Baby-G and G-Shock watches linked together, the star posed against a Casio pop-art style background. The most eyecatching of the watches featured in the Rudeboy video is the Casio Baby-G BG5601-4 which is on sale here, also for £51.97.

After starting as a brand ambassador for Baby-G and Casio in 2009, Ke$ha has produced two limited edition designs for the brand. One, the BGA200KS-1E model, is made from a black resin band and is both an analog and a digital watch with a gold and leopard print face. The other, the BG5600KS-7, takes inspiration from the star-spangled banner with its red, white and blue theme. Both watches are shock resistant, 100M water resistant and feature 48 cities worth of world time! The packaging for each watch is made of recycled material, as requested by Ke$ha herself.

On being chosen as ambassador for the brand, the pop-star says “I think the Baby-G brand is amazing it’s stylish, innovative, durable and affordable. The bright colors and metallic finishes really compliment my moods and personality… I have some fun ideas for my watches and I am so thrilled that I am the first worldwide female artist to be given the opportunity to design my very own Baby-G!” The models are not currently on sale anywhere in the UK, but you can get your paws on the Ke$ha designs over at Casio USA.

The second installment in our spring trend report is going to focus on one of the hottest trends on the runways: pastels. Sherbert-coloured clothing and accessories are massively popular for spring, and if you pick up some pretty pinks and pale yellows now, they’ll help to put you in a sunny frame of mind even in the depths of winter.

Pastel jeans are going to be huge, and the best bit is you can find them in every price range. For just 25 quid, Very carries jeans in colours ranging from lavender (my favourite) to pale yellow. As I look at the chilly rain and snow outside my window, spring feels a terribly long time away. Take a walk through the shops or browse your favourite store’s website and it’s a different story: everyone seems to be rolling out their spring/summer collections.

The fashion magazines are buzzing with the latest trends for spring, and even though it might be a few months before you can wear them, there’s nothing like a bit of fashion escapism. That being said, over the next few weeks we’ll take a closer look at some of this season’s best trends and how you can find them on a budget.

First up is the 1920’s look. Maybe it’s because The Great Gatsby remake will be in theatres, but the flapper style is going to be massive, especially when it comes to eveningwear.

Let’s start out with the flapper basic: the drop-waist embellished dress. Dorothy Perkins has a lovely brown version for just £45, or at Asos, a black t-shirt dress with fun beading is £54.

House of Fraser carries a peach embellished flapper dress for £59.99; since the trim is a little more subdued, you could carry this one over to daytime dressing as well. If you’d rather avoid the blingy flapper look but would like a 20’s style for casual wear, check out t his drop waist cotton day dress from Miss Selfridge for £35.

When it comes to accessories, a smart cloche hat like this one from Hobbs (on sale for £26.10) will get you through the remainder of chilly winter days. For this week’s Friday Find I’m going to focus on a beauty tool that saves time, space and money by combining a flat iron and curling iron in one.  You might’ve seen the Instyler on TV, but now you can buy it straight from Boots. I’ve been considering buying one for ages, and after watching the videos and tutorials I’m excited to give it a go!

The three-in-one Instyler straightens, curls, adds shine and volumises, all in one tool. You can even use it on damp hair to eliminate the need for a blow dryer. This is a brilliant option for those who want to cut back on the number of hair styling tools they use or as an alternative to trying to make curls with a traditional straightening iron (I’ve tried it and it’s tricky.)

The colours, on-trend pastel shades, are a stark contrast to the luxe greens and golds of the November Versace for H&M collection. Perhaps the only thing the mostly white and purple pieces share with their A/W predecessors is a the Versace vivacity and brightness which ensures the pieces are anything but neutral. They may be pretty and ladylike, but these garments are sure to make a splash too.

Our favourite pieces from the collection here at the blog are the printed silk neglige (£34.99) and matching silk dressing gown (£39.99), bringing glamour and fun to nap-time. The accessories collection, made up of shoes, bags, belts, jewellery and scarves,  has some gorgeous stand out pieces like the chain charm bracelet for £24.99 and printed heels for £59.99.

If you’re invited to a wedding this winter, deciding on how to dress is enough to make you want to bundle up under the covers and stay home. The guys have it easy year-round: just throw on a suit and tie and go. But for the ladies, those floaty dresses and strappy heels that make up most of our eveningwear repertoire don’t always transfer to colder temps.

Fortunately, sometimes the best solution is the simplest one: add a smart jacket or shrug over an old cocktail dress to make it more cold weather-appropriate. This sequin bolero (£39 from House of Fraser) can easily take a strapless dress or summery skirt/top ensemble to winter, or buy this cropped black blazer from Miss Selfridge for £40.

For those who prefer to cover up their legs, pair some black trousers you already own with a blazer and sparkly top, like this fun style from Lipsy. For under 40 quid you can definitely use this top again for girls’ nights out or dinner and drinks on the town; lose the blazer when summer arrives!

John Lewis has an entire winter wedding section on their website, so you can find everything you need from a dress to shoes to makeup. This purple Coast “Olivia” dress is my personal favourite choice; although it’s a bit pricier than the other options, for £95 you have a dress that can easily transition to day (and even the office) if you switch up the accessories. Its solid colour and versatile shape means you’ll probably use it loads more than a sequined or lace outfit, too.

Trend #1: Shades of blue

Those who opted for blue tones on this year’s red carpet included Michelle Williams, who dazzled in a rich, textured Jason Wu gown when she picked up her award for “Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture”. Tilda Swinton was as striking as ever in her structured Haider Ackermann ensemble. Kelly Osbourne was one of many to work the popular fishtail trend in Zac Posen, a shape mirrored by Modern Family’s Sofia Vergara in Vera Wang. Sarah Michelle Gellar went for a striking visual with blue and white print in this Monique Lhuillier gown.

Trend #2: Nude

Neutrals seemed to be the most popular choice of the night with many of the ceremony’s best dressed gracing the red carpet in demure shades. Kristen Wiig looked laid back and ladylike in her Bill Blass number, while Kate Beckinsale opted for a more feminine silhouette, looking like a princess in Roberto Cavalli. Jessica Biel channeled a vintage screen siren look in an Elie Saab Haute Couture breath-taker with a thigh-high split. The Help’s Jessica Chastain sparkled in an embellished Givenchy Haute Couture dress with a high neckline. Heidi Klum looked understated and stunning in a simple Calvin Klein gown made gorgeous by a turquoise stone neck-piece. Nominated “Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series” Parks And Recreation’s Amy Poehler wore a Naeem Khan piece which glittered as she had her photo taken.

Trend #3: Black with a twist

There’s no denying that black is a go-to for instant glamour. After all, we all have a trusted LBD in our wardrobe, right? This year black was as popular as ever, but with an added ping of pizazz, seen here on Salma Hayeck rocking Gucci, Evan Rachel Wood in Gucci Premier, and New Girl all-round kooky favourite Zooey Deschanel in Prada. Juliette Moore too opted for the shape of the night, fishtail, stunning in a Chanel Haute Couture piece, while Mila Kunis went for sheer with Dior. “Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series” winner Claire Danes, as well as award season favourite Kate Winslet both opted for monochrome numbers. Danes’ stunning backless gown was J. Mendel while British beauty Winslet wore Jenny Packham.

Trend #4: Wine

One of the less prominent trends of the night was seen adorning the likes of Emma Stone, The Good Wife’s Julianna Marguiles, Tina Fey and Viola Davis. The star of this summer’s block-buster The Amazing Spider-Man wore Lanvin, while Marguiles went for a backless show-stopper by Naeem Khan. Tina Fey took the traditional approach to award-show chic in a rouched Oscar de la Renta frock and clutch, while The Help star Davis chose Emilio Pucci to dress her.

Here at the blog we’re deeming Emma Stone, Evan Rachel Wood, Michelle Williams, Jessica Biel and Zooey Deschanel as our Top Five Best Dressed of the night. Overall we thought fashion this year was pretty great. Which gowns floated your boat?

Having featured international superstar Lady Gaga as their Viva Glam front lady for two years running, MAC have brought on board some fresh faces to represent their best selling charity range in 2012. Hip-hop star Nicki Minaj has worked with the brand before to create her signature “Pink Friday” lipstick, a bright pink shade released to commemorate her debut album. The lipstick sold quickly and has become a much sought after product for beauty enthusiasts, selling for hugely inflated prices on eBay. Nicki’s quirky style and playful relationship with colour has seen her collaborate with other big beauty brands too, making her a great match for innovative cosmetics range MAC.

Minaj and co-Viva Glammer Ricky Martin were photographed for the campaign last summer by noted fashion photographer David LaChapelle. LaChapelle is known for his sometimes surreal and often shocking work, and there’s no doubt that his MAC shoot is anything but eye-catching. The resulting shots are bright, colourful and cartoonish with Minaj crouching on a motorbike while Martin brandishes an oversized lipstick. The photographs feature several shades of pink, to mirror the two lipstick shades set for release.

Every penny from the sale of the MAC Viva Glam range is donated to the MAC Aids Fund, a charity which has raised $224 million during its active years. While Gaga took sole leadership in 2011, the Viva Glam back-catalogue features a whole host of stars including Cyndi Lauper, Dita Von Teese, Missy Elliot, Fergie and Christina Aguilera.
