How To Handle Telemarketing Sales Calls
We all get them from time to time… those calls from telemarketing companies trying to sell us things we don’t ever need. And they usually have the fine art of calling when you’re in the middle of doing something, like shovelling your dinner in your mouth! Here is a handy script to use to try and get rid of them! It’s your turn to flip the script on them! Firstly you may want to sign up your telephone number to the National Do Not Call registry by checking out http://donotcall.gov or you can call 1-888-382-1222. If you are in the UK then visit http://www.callpreventionregistry.co.uk
1. Are you a telemarketing company? Or are you trying to sell me something?
2. Please can you let me know what your full name is?
3. Please can you tell me the name of the company you are working for?
4. Can I have your companies contact details like phone number including the area code please?
5. Do you know if your company or organisation stores telephone numbers of people that do not wish to be contacted?
6. If so, then please can you add my number to this list please as of immediate effect.
7. Do you know if your organisation works for or with any other telemarketing company? (If no then move on but if yes see 8.)
8. Can you then please ensure that any other company affiliated to you will not contact me either.
If the sales advisor or customer service agent doesn’t understand you and your questions then it may be wise to ask for a supervisor or manager. When you are happy that all your questions have been adhered to and noted then you can terminate the conversation with a line like “Are we clear that I never want to receive sales calls from your company again?” and then finish up with a courteous goodbye. However if you still want to hammer the point home then you can simply continue…
1. Can you please confirm whether your company will keep my contact details on your no call list for the next ten years at least?
2. And can you please let me know whether your organisation has a written policy that confirms this on paper?
3. If so, please can you send me a copy of this?
4. Can I please take the full name of your supervisor/team leader/manager
5. Please can I take the full details of your employment including nosiness name, number and address?
6. Is your company a not for profit organisation or tax exempt?
7. Can you clarify whether this call is a follow up to a previous business relationship we may have established?
Just before you hang up or slam the phone down in frustration, make sure you have all the answers to these questions before the call is terminated. Also make a note of the time and date of the call for your records.
