A friend of my dads has been a microlighter for years, and my dad listens to his pal’s stories with a great deal of enthusiasm. He has also threatened on many occasions to take up the sport himself, much to mum’s chagrin. But so far he hasn’t really been in the air (in a Microlight anyway). So I decided to put him to the test this year, and I bought him an hour-long lesson for his birthday. When he first read the gift, he seemed confused, perplexed, but then he started beaming. He’s so excited about it. In fact, it’s all he talks about. The perplexed look, apparently, was him trying to work out whether he had to bring a guest, in other words my mum, and he was very pleased to learn it was all for himself. His lesson is next week, but I’ll bet mum will go and take some photos.
