New Baby Wishlist - Playing

Expecting a new arrival this year? If so, the chances are you’ve got a long shopping list saved to your hard drive. Even if this isn’t your first, there’s probably a little freshening up you’d like to do before your next bundle of joy comes along.

Big spends can be difficult after the festive season, January is tight as you sit back after a month of festive indulgence, and it can be hard to splash out when the rest of us are eating from our store cupboards and staying in at the weekend. However, it’s important not to forget that January can also be a great chance to grab a bargain or two and put you a few steps ahead for the future months. We’ve picked out some of our favourite sale bargains:

Playing: Toys and play things are by far the most exciting things to buy for a new little one, and it’s easy to get carried away. With a bit of savvy shopping, you can pick out some real bargains that the new baby will love, keeping them entertained and making them giggle for hours on end. For our choices we’ve opted for Mamas and Papas, who have a sale running all this week.

– The Babyplay – 4 in 1 Tummy Time Play & Explore Mat comes in at a bargain-tastic 50% off and will provide baby with hours of fun and learning, suitable from birth – a great buy at just £34.95 down from £69.95.

– Next up, this classic Rocking Horse makes a great addition to any nursery and works well for both boys and girls. While it’s not suitable to ride until two years, it’ll sure look pretty and provide a friendly face for baby. Plus, at 50% off and £74.50, it’s a real treat yourself item – perfect for a sale purchase!

– Finally there’s baby’s My First Bear, available for both boys and girls and you can personalise it too. A gorgeous keepsake for the early days and super cuddly too! Grab it at half price for just £6.25 with the option to Click & Collect in-store for free.

– Looking for more playtime fun? Amazon currently have their Lamaze learning toys on offer, with big discounts off RRP. Torin the T-Rex, anyone?

Feeding: Whether you’re planning to breast feed, bottle feed or combination feed, chances are there are a fair few gadgets that’ll make your life a whole lot easier. We’ve scoured the web to find the best of them at the best prices, so you can stock up without blowing the budget.

– Talk to any new mum and the chances are she’s heard a lot about the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Perfect Prep Machine, especially if she’s bottle or combo feeding. This handy gadget makes nighttime feeds a cinch, churning out bottle after bottle at the perfect temperature every time. Snap one up in white or LE black for just £70 at Mothercare – that’s a massive £50 reduction from its usual £120 price tag.

– Essentials kits are a great place to start if you’re not sure what feeding entails. Dr Brown’s Natural Flow Gift Set with it’s air bubble eliminating teats is renowned with midwives and mums for helping to ease wind and colic, and the microwave steriliser makes it easy to get rid of pesky household bacteria. This starter kit contains everything you need and is reduced from £49.99 to just £34.50 on Amazon.

– If it’s just the steriliser you’re after, we think this Philips Avent Natural Microwave Steam Steriliser is a bargain at just £13 reduced from it’s RRP of £26 at Mothercare.

– This Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Travel Bottle Warmer will be a godsend when you’re out of the house – getting warm, comforting milk to baby every time without the hassle of tracking down hot water or a microwave. Find it reduced to £7.95 from £10 at Mamas and Papas.

– Finally, if you’re a breastfeeder and considering expressing, Mothercare has some great deals on breast pumps. Whether it’s electric, manual, single or double you’re after, there’s some great reductions, including this awesome Innosense Electric Breast Pump down to £44.99 from £89.99.

Bathing: Bathtime is one of the best times to bond with your little one, and you bet it can be fun as well as practical! Not only is it important to keep costs down here but you might also need to save on space, so we’ve taken that into account as we’ve picked up the best bargains.

– When it comes to products, keeping your baby clean and supple can bring a minefield of problems. Johnson’s have long had the best reputation on the market for being kind to baby’s skin, so we love this Johnson’s Baby Skincare Essentials Box from Boots. A steal at £24.95, it provides you with everything a newborn could need, plus there’s a handy box to store it all in! Don’t forget to sign up to Boots Parenting Club and use your Advantage Card – you’ll get 10 points for every £1 you spend on baby items!

– Like we said, bath time doesn’t have to be a chore! Add a splash of colour with this awesome Essentials Changing Mattress in Pin Ball Spot – also a great buy if you’re planning two changing stations, one upstairs, one down. Snap it up for £9.95 down from £14.95 at Mamas and Papas.

– This Tumbling Teds Baby Bath is an absolute steal at £7.50 down from £14.99, and it’s gender neutral too. Use it free-standing or inside your own bath. If that’s far too simple for you, and you’d prefer something at waist height (a saviour for your back!) why not try out the Evolve Bath & Changing Station – it’s a little pricey at £79.20 down from £99.99, but it provides practically and storage space inside the nursery, well worth a look!
