The sun is finally out and spring is here – but if you’re like me, the idea of swapping out your cosy winter clothes and figuring out what to wear might make you groan (especially if you overindulged at the festive season and nothing fits from last year!). Taking stock of what you have and what needs to be replaced is always good advice for a new season, and you should do that before figuring out what new trends you want to try.

Come up with a budget and then make a list of any key items you need to update, such as jeans, black trousers for work, trainers, etc. After you’ve covered the basics, use what money you have left for a few trendy pieces. The fashion advice I always try to remember is to invest in timeless items you’ll wear for years, and not to spend much money on things you’ll look back on and cringe in a decade. That being said, we’ve rounded up three of spring’s best trends along with attainable pieces under £40!

Florals

Spring can be quite tricky when one day you’re wearing a skirt and bare legs, and the next you’re in a jacket and freezing. The good news is you can still rock the floral trend when the weather isn’t exactly balmy.

At BHS, this floral midi tie dress (£35) makes the perfect transitional piece to spring weather. The long sleeves and midi length keep you covered up for chillier days, but its floaty chiffon is lightweight enough for once the weather gets warmer.

The Blue Cross Sale is now on at Debenhams, and you can find loads of amazing deals like this Jessica Wright for Sistaglam floral bodycon pencil skirt. It’s on sale for half off at just £21!

Wear this floral jacquard kimono now over a long sleeved top, then use it this summer as a bikini coverup. Find it for £35 at Miss Selfridge.

Welcome to the jungle

You don’t have to take an expensive long haul holiday to look exotic this season. It’s all about the prints with tropical flowers, palm trees, leaves, and birds.

I’m loving this cheerful blue and yellow floral cotton dress from Dorothy Perkins (£38). With its palm leaf print you’ll feel like you’re in the tropics, even if you’re stuck at the office on a rainy day. Use our promotional code for 10% off your first order to save a few more pennies.

Asos have this tropical print longline bikini top on super sale for a mere £4.50! They’ve got a variety of matching bottoms, all under £10 as well.

Another great buy is this off-the-shoulder Taylor tropical print top at Boohoo.com. The best bit? It’s 5 quid, so if it’s not in style next year, you can cut your losses and give it to the charity shop.

Bows

Bows are big lately (literally). Whether you add a bow to your trainers or the sleeves of your top, you can easily wear this trend without looking too girly or young.

I’m currently obsessing over these bow trainers (£25) at Marks and Spencer. The biggest dilemma is whether to get the denim blue or the grey? #decisions

This chic black and white striped jumper with bow detail at the neck (£30 at M&Co) is perfect with a skirt or smart black trousers for the office, or pair it with jeans for weekend wear.

Combine two trends in one – this tankini top at Kaleidoscope features a fresh floral print with a fun bow at the front. Plus, it’s just £22!
