When the weather is nice like it was this weekend then what’s better than getting the paddling pool out for the kids, inviting family round, and lighting the BBQ.

Of course, the main aspect of the gathering is the food, you can keep it simple with just burgers and sausages or you can add more.

Along with the burgers and sausage’s we added peri peri chicken kebabs with peppers and smoky BBQ marinated chicken kebabs. This was plenty of meat for 4 adults and 2 children. It’s so easy to go overboard on the meat which will inevitably cost a fortune and leave you with a lot of waste so keep it simple and add things such as salad, new potatoes, coleslaw and don’t forget the bread rolls.

Buying the meat for your BBQ can be expensive but there are ways you can cut the cost. You could see if you could find yellow sticker meat and keep it in the freezer until you need it but then you run the risk of not finding what you want and having to pay full price, another option which my family recently tried was a hamper from MuscleFood.com.

I’ve seen them on Facebook and always wondered how the meat compared to the local supermarket and butcher and I must say I wasn’t disappointed. It arrived very quickly and it was packaged perfectly. I was concerned how fresh meat would be delivered and still be ok but I didn’t need to worry, opening the box I could see a silver foil bag and freezer packs which kept the meat perfectly cool and ready to go into the fridge.

The quality is very impressive and the taste is fantastic. We had a variety of sausages, burgers, and chicken for our BBQ and everyone commented on how delicious the meat was.

I always think burgers on a BBQ go very dry and overdone but the burgers from MuscleFood.com stayed thick, juicy, and full of flavour. You could tell they had a high meat content compared to a supermarket equivalent. The sausages were equally as tasty, juicy, and full of flavour. A favourite was the Pork and Leek sausage. You could really taste the leek and the high meat content was very apparent.

The chicken kebabs were made using MuscleFood.com chicken breasts which arrived in a 5kg pack. I was amazed at the size of each of the chicken breasts. It’s not normally something I buy from the supermarket due to the cost and the small size.

I always go for a cheaper cut such as thighs or legs. The bulk packs of chicken breasts are not only great value when worked out but for the simple size of the chicken pieces they go a long way, there is enough in the 5kg pack for at least 7-10 meals, they really are that big. The also cook brilliantly no loss of water and they are succulent and full of flavour.

I would definitely use MuscleFood.com for our BBQ’s again the price point, quality, and freshness all made for a great budget BBQ.

Keeping the kids entertained while having a BBQ is another thing that can be expensive but it doesn’t have to be my boys were over the moon with a slide into a £3 Asda inflatable paddling pool. They thought it was great and couldn’t get enough. Keep it simple places like Poundland and B&M do great outdoor toys that cost next to nothing. I do find the supermarkets can be abit pricey so stick to budget stores and again keep it simple.

I think that’s the key to a budget BBQ, Keep it simple. Don’t go overboard. Spending a lot of money doesn’t necessarily mean your BBQ will be better it’s all about the experience and what you make it.
