It’s about that time of year where we start complaining we want a holiday due to the interesting British Summer i.e rain. And so just to make us feel heaps better/throw ourselves under a bus about the situation, here are 7 of the finest beaches in the world which are famous for featuring on the big screen!

Kastani Beach, Skopelos – Greece

The Bay of Kastani on the island of Skopelos is where they filmed Mamma Mia. For those who have seen the Abba-tastic musical, you may remember the cast dancing and singing up and down the wooden dock… well this has unfortunately been removed to try and preserve the natural beauty. However you can visit and regurgitate the cringe moves Meryl Streep was throwing!

Monuriki – Fiji

This fabulous island is where the film Castaway with Tom Hanks was filmed. It truly is a beautiful place and when I visited all I wanted to do was to sit down and have a little chat with a volleyball called Wilson.

Cannon Beach, Astoria – Oregon

Heeeeey yoooou guuuuuys!! The Goonies is one of my all-time favourite films and some of the movie was filmed here. If you are an 80s child and haven’t watched it… then we no longer can be friends. Sorry! Goonie festivals are sometimes held here where you get to view the film on the beach and partake in tours to the film locations. Fun times!

Whangara Beach – New Zealand

Whale Rider, based on the novel is the famous Kiwi film focusing on the Maori culture, showcase one of their many gorgeous beaches here.

Phi Phi – Thailand

Every backpacker must have seen the Leonardo DiCaprio film The Beach! The beautiful island of Phi Phi featured and most travellers visit Phi Phi when in Thailand. The locals recovered amazingly well after the awful Tsunami, but it is a huge tourist trap these days which can detract from the beauty. However it’s something to tick off your list!

Laughing Waters – Jamaica

Some of you may not know the movie by name, but the iconic scene of Ursula Andress emerging from the ocean should stick in your memory! The movie James Bond Dr No was filmed on this Jamaican beach and you too can frolic in the water like a superstar! Or not. You could just sunbathe and eat an ice cream like everyone else!

Inch Strand, Co Kerry – Ireland

The double Oscar award winning film Ryan’s Daughter had a few of its scenes filmed on this location in Ireland. Pretty spectacular views and great for surfing!
