Tis the season to be jolly… but sometimes unfortunately that is not the case. Whilst some folk are throwing around good will to all men and sprinkling fairy dust with much merriment, others find this time of the year a struggle both emotionally and physically. If you find you are prone to spiralling into a bah humbug kind of funk, then try and claw your way back with a few simple suggestions!

One

Money plays a lot into how our mood can shift from day to day especially over the Christmas season where you’re suffocated with BUY BUY BUY! So take advantage of sales and discounts. They are there to be used and abused and saving you a pound or two is good for the soul!

Two

Stop moaning about the neighbours and their over the top tacky Christmas lights and decorations, and get involved! I’m pretty sure your competitive nature will come out once you get started! But have some fun and entertain you and your family.

Three

Embrace and share the kindness! I know you have it in you! Now don’t get me wrong, this isn’t a self-help rant, but instead of avoiding eye contact with strangers (and often friends!) today, engage with a smile. Force it if you have to! But the gratification of making someone smile back is a great feeling.

Four

Go on holiday! If the gloomy weather is breaking your spirit, then treat yourself and the family to a mini break! It will rejuvenate your wellbeing as often a change in scenery is a welcomed distraction! There are often last minute deals to be had so again money doesn’t have to rule your life if you’re savvy!

Five

Make plans for the New Year. This is my favourite as you feel like you are making strides to improve your constant state of mind. 2013 is just around the corner so start thinking about what you would love to do instead of dwelling on what you haven’t done this year.
