Not On The High Street is a market place for people looking to support the rallying cry of "support small, independent business owners." Just because this site procures items that won't be found on the High Street in any town, customers shouldn't make the assumption that by shopping here they will be filling their trolley with cheap kitsch. Okay so maybe there's a little kitsch, but even that's pretty adorable (e.g the pink and blue watermelon bowling pins designed for use as decor in a nursery). Mostly though, the Not On The High Street team has scoured thousands of independent sellers to bring together an eclectic collection of home goods, artisanal foods, outdoor decor and gardening supplies, jewelry, art and gifts. Since Not On the High Street functions more like a virtual marketplace, offering artisans a place to showcase their wares. Orders ship directly from the sellers and buyers can contact sellers directly with questions and comments before making a final purchase. read more

Great for finding unique gifts that please

I have two friends who are getting married at the end of the summer, and they haven’t registered for anything at any stores. They say they don’t need anything, which really just means I have to be creative in finding them the perfect gift. Urghghgh. They live on a narrowboat, however, so the options for glassware and crystal are a bit limited. This site is brilliant because I know I don’t run the risk or duplicated gifts here. All the items are quite unique. I found a few things here, but the main gift is the silver-plated mussel eaters. They love seafood, and what better utensils to have on a boat (granted, they aren’t in sea water, but that’s beside the point). Great site. Will definitely be back.

Great website - brilliant for so many things!

I love Not on the High Street. I know predominantly it is seen as a place to buy cool and quirky gifts for others, but I have to admit that more often than not I buy things for myself. My husband and I were luckily enough to build our own house last year and I had a brilliant time decorating it. I often get compliments on a lot of our ornamental things like posters, kitchen accessories etc, and they are more or less all from Not on the High Street. It sounds cheesey but the stock they offer really is like nothing you can find on the high street. All the products I bought are high quality and have a gorgeous kind of hand-made/boutique element regardless of where they came from. I more or less always go to Not on the High Street for gifts for friends and it's absolutely perfect for new or expecting mums. My only criticism would be that sometimes it can be a little expensive, and shipping can add up if you bulk order because things come from different sellers, but that really is the only thing that would ever put me off ordering from them. Whenever I log on I have to restrain myself from buying everything!
