Writing to manufacturers can be very rewarding and a lot of times it results in some high value, hard to get coupons. Anyone that coupons knows that finding ones that make items free are rare, as the majority are money off. So by gaining manufacturer ones this will result in free shopping.
There are a few ways you can do this. One is using a phrase Holly Smith from Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK uses and that is “it pays to praise”. This entails choosing your favourite products that you regularly use and writing a personalised letter to the company saying what you like, why you like it and if you have any new flavours or design ideas. One thing you can do is include drawings from your children if it’s a product that they like. Make it as personal to you as you can and as detailed as you can. Companies get a lot of similar letters and many are generic and just looking for coupons, so get creative.
Sending letters nowadays isn’t always cheap and if your sending out 10-20 letters at a time it can be expensive, but most companies will have a freepost address and you can pick up packs of writing paper and envelopes from places like The Works for just £1, so that will keep costs down.
Another tip is: don’t write to big huge companies as generally they are very impersonal with the customer services department and they probably get hundreds of letters a week from people so chances of your letter being read and getting a reply is pretty slim.
Also, if you’re not happy with a product, you have found a foreign object in your product or you are generally unsatisfied with something then don’t be afraid to complain. Companies need feedback of any kind when it relates to products, so as long as it’s constructive and most importantly GENUINE then there’s nothing wrong with it. In my experience 9 times out of 10 this results in a goodwill gesture of coupons, but this is not to be taken advantage of, as companies will stop giving them out.
When writing to manufacturers I cannot stress enough how important is it to be HONEST and GENUINE. Don’t just do it looking for coupons as it ruins it for everyone else that has genuine praise or a genuine problem. And secondly don’t be disheartened if you don’t get a reply or you just get a thank you letter. After all, you are sharing your opinions not looking for a free hand out.
