That time of year is approaching again, and it won’t be long before the chaos will start. Of course I’m talking about the annual spring clean. Time to declutter and freshen up those wintery areas that the weather has made you put off. There’s nothing better than waking up to that nice spring morning, getting all the windows open and feeling that fresh air sweep through the house.

If you’re like me and cleaning isn’t something you enjoy but is one of those life’s necessities, there’s plenty of ways to make it more enjoyable. Then when you step back and look at what your hard work has achieved it makes it all worth it.

I find ways to get my boys involved in it as well. As they are only young, keeping it simple and giving them tasks like sorting through toys and books keeps them entertained and involved.

The spring sort out doesn’t mean that it’s just about cleaning everything in sight, it’s about clearing out things you won’t use anymore. This is a great opportunity to make some extra cash while you declutter. There’s lots of ways you can do this. Something I did recently was sort through all my family’s clothes and shoes and bags. All the ones that were too small or not wanted anymore I took them in bin bags down to a little shop in town and weighed them in. You don’t get much for them; I think it’s around £5 per 10 kilos. But it’s all adds up quickly and it didn’t take me long to add an extra £45 to that week’s budget. This meant we could have a little treat after all the hard work of decluttering.

The other thing you can do is place items on for sale sites, Gumtree is great one and there’s also eBay. I find for bigger items gumtree is a lot simpler as its cash on collection and there’s no postage involved. But for smaller items, this isn’t always possible, so that’s when eBay comes in handy. Don’t forget about any Facebook sites for your local area, as that’s a great way to reach people. You will be amazed at the number of things you find that you can sell and a lot of it you never realised you had.

Those winter blues are coming to and end and the cheery days of spring are approaching, so get decluttering and see what you can achieve.
