Christmas time was grand but now that the boxes and bows are put away and a brand new year is about to start, it’s time to get rid of the old and bring in the new. And what better way to do that than a bit of a shopping? The great thing about xmas is many of us have ended up with gift cards or cash as gifts, so the sales are a great way to treat yourself and get more for your money at the same time. And if you didn’t get that special item on your Santa list this year, you can likely find it for a steal right now!

Back in the day, everyone used to race out to the shops and try to get those Boxing Day sales, but the good thing now is you can shop from the comfort of your pyjamas, and most after-Christmas sales last into the New Year.

I LOVE to get a head start on Christmas a year in advance. Something about getting gifts or decorations for a song and packing them away knowing I’m prepared for the following festive season is just very satisfying to me. And you can often find Christmas lights, baubles, cards, and all that you need for 50 or even 75% off this time of year. If you need a new artificial Christmas tree, never buy one in the autumn! Wait until Christmas is over and snag one for at least half price. Our family definitely needs a new tree after having ours for 10 years, so we’ll be picking up a new one in the sales like this one from Marks and Spencer – it’s half off! Another great thing to buy is Christmas wrap, bows, and tags. You can get this wrapping accessory kit for a mere £2.50 on sale at M&S.

I think post-Christmas is one of those times when you decide that you need to change everything about your house. Once the tree is down and the decorations are put away, my home just looks a bit boring and depressing and then I decide I want to redecorate. Fortunately, you can shop to your heart’s content for homewares and save loads this time of year. If you’re in the market for a new lighting fixture, towels, glasses, bedding or pretty much anything else for the home you can save up to half off in the homeware sale at BHS. I’m loving this Irina table lamp, now marked down to £84 (original £120), and the brushed cotton robin bedding, now more than 50% off at £12.

Whether you put on a few extra pounds this festive season or you just want to spend those gift cards, the sales are a perfect opportunity to stock up on new clothes. I like to plan ahead for events the next year, so if you know you’ve got a wedding, special party, or holiday to shop for, might as well do it now. At Debenhams the up to half price sale has some great finds like this Chi Chi London pale blue prom dress for 70% off! If you’ve got a spring or summer wedding this would be perfect. With up to half price kidswear, you can buy ahead for the upcoming year (and who wants to pay full price when kids grow so fast?). How cute is this Bluezoo baby girls grey jersey panda dress, and it’s just £3.75!
