The coupon shop was for a short documentary I’ve been filming for some University students as part of their degree. Last week I did an interview with them answering all their questions about what couponing is, how it saves you money and how it has impacted my life. I was slightly terrified of doing it at first, but it ended up being a lot of fun.

I remember my first coupon shop and I’ll never forget it. It was both nerve-racking and exhilarating at the same time. The fun part is going around picking up your items knowing that the bunch of paper in your hand is the same to you as money but when you get to the till then that’s a whole new game.

Learning skills such as knitting, sewing and embroidery also saved my granny a lot of money. Being able to make and mend your own clothes saved a fortune and these skills were also passed down to my grandma and my mother. There is nothing these incredible women can’t make.

Now I have two boys and a husband to buy for I’m keeping the list short not because I’m a Grinch but it’s so easy to get carried away and my boys don’t have a shortage of toys, so I’m sticking to things they want and will use and keeping a strict record of my spending.

My town is shocking for clothes. All we have is a Select, Peacocks, Next and Matalan but they are very basic and I find Next expensive so I headed for the up to 50% sale in Select. I wanted something smartish and pretty but without being formal as it’s a casual night.

Everyone knows just how expensive booking a summer holiday can be – from hotel stays to flights to luggage, and let’s not forget the spending money. Booking a summer vacation can often turn into an endless money pit. While a break away is often needed and those wonderful memories with your family are priceless, it can often be a hard road before and after your holiday due to saving the money that you need.

You can stockpile anything from washing powder, washing up liquid, toiletries, pasta and sauces and cereals – anything that you can keep on your shelves that won’t go off. Over the last six months my stockpile has really grown and if I’m honest I love opening the door to my utility room and seeing all my shelves bursting with items, and I love it even more when I know that I paid at least 70% less than the original costs.

Finally though, it looks as if coupons are making a comeback and there are a few good sites that you can use to find them. My favourites are SuperSavvyMe and Caring Everyday, which have recently added some new coupons. Simply have a look through and see if there are any for products you use. Then just print them out and do your supermarket comparison and find where you can maximise your saving.

This week hasn’t been the best for new coupons, so cash back apps seem to be the thing to use just lately. They are brilliant for claiming money back on items that you would buy normally – just be careful to not get caught out in buying something you don’t need just because you can get the money back. It’s not a saving if you weren’t buying the item anyway.
